is a multidisciplinary artist based in Newark, Delaware. In 2017 they enrolled in the Masters of Fine Art program at University of Delaware and are now in their final year. Mariel is a first generation Cuban American lesbian artist, working primarily with sharpie markers on a variety of common-place surfaces (paper, cardboard, foam boards, yard signs, sandwich boards etc.). Brightly colored abstract images of hearts and energy fill the surfaces layered with stream of consciousness style writing in all-caps handwritten text. Mariel’s work prioritizes storytelling and honesty, and is informed by light, color, love, The Bhagavad Gita, Hinduism, Yoga, womanhood, the soul, creating, and living in happiness.
